Vol. 243 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Buchanan Report.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of its importance to the future development of Ireland, he will circulate to each member of the Oireachtas a copy of the report prepared by Colin Buchanan and Partners and entitled Regional Studies in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not the practice to circulate reports of this kind in the manner suggested. The Buchanan report is available in the Oireachtas Library and copies may be had from An Foras Forbartha, St. Martin's House, Waterloo Road, Dublin 4. I have nothing to add at this stage to the statements already made. I would draw attention particularly to the Government statement of 19th May last in which it was indicated that because of their wide implications the consultants' recommendations would have to be further considered and to my reply on 25th November to another question in the matter in which I outlined the arrangements which are now being made in the regions to this end.

Surely, since the Minister accepts that the report has widespread implications, he should reconsider this matter and circulate the report? After all, Members of the House cannot be living in the Dáil Library.

No, but they can obtain the report from An Foras Forbartha.
