Vol. 243 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Garda Station.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice if, because of the many protests against the closure of Togher Garda station, County Cork, he will reconsider his decision to close this station.

The closing of Togher station is part of a general scheme approved by my predecessor for the reorganisation of the Garda districts in the division of Cork east. Under this general scheme, part of the present Togher sub-district will be policed from Dennehy's Cross station and the other part from a new station to be erected in the Douglas area. I accept the advice of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána that this scheme will provide a more effective deployment of Garda personnel and give an improved service to the public.
