Vol. 243 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Courthouse Clerical Staff.

58.

asked the Minister for Justice the current number of vacancies for permanent established clerical officers in Cork courthouse; if it is intended to fill these vacancies in the immediate future on an open competitive basis; and the number of clerical officer appointments which are temporary in Cork and the length of service of the officers concerned.

There are at present two vacancies for established clerical officers in the Cork circuit court office. I cannot say when it will be possible to fill these vacancies on a permanent basis as the availability of clerical officers for assignment or transfer to Cork depends entirely on the assignment of newly recruited officers made to my Department from time to time by the Civil Service Commissioners, on the authority of the Minister for Finance, to fill vacancies in my Department as a whole. Arrangements are being made to fill the vacancies in question on a temporary basis by the recruitment locally of two temporary clerks pending the availability of clerical officers to fill the vacancies on a permanent basis.

No other clerical officer post in the Cork office is at present blocked by a temporary appointment.
