Vol. 243 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soil Fertility.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether he proposes to set up an advisory body to examine the dangers to long-term soil fertility by modern farming methods; and whether he sees any long-term dangers to soil fertility because of modern farming methods.

I am not aware that there are long-term dangers to soil fertility in this country because of modern farming methods. Farming methods are, of course, developed and modified as necessary in the light of research findings and practical farming experience. I do not see a need for an advisory body to examine this matter.
