Vol. 243 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bridges.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the Dublin Corporation have submitted proposals for the erection of additional bridges across the Liffey in view of the developing volume of traffic.

I have received an application for a bridge order from Dublin Corporation for the construction of a new quay level bridge on the line from Memorial Road to Moss Street, and in pursuance of section 46 of the Local Government Act, 1946, I have recently directed the corporation to submit a preliminary report in the matter.

A corporation proposal to engage consultants to make a study of various possibilities for a further crossing in the Macken Street area was recently received and is under consideration in my Department.

Also, I understand that the corporation are examining tenders for the reconstruction and widening of Seán Heuston Bridge.

Would the Minister not agree that it would save considerable time if he gave Deputy Dowling the answers at the same time as he gives him the questions?

That is a separate question.

It would appear that the Labour Party are trying to deny me the right to ask questions here.

They are trying to restrict the Deputy's right to ask Parliamentary questions. I hope I will have many more such intelligent questions from Deputy Dowling.

(Interruptions.)

Is Deputy Ryan here today? Back again? Even Deputy O'Higgins is here today.

(Cavan): Arising out of the Minister's interjection, will it be in order to have a roll call here each day for all Deputies who are members of the Bar?

That does not arise.

Is the meeting over?

(Cavan): If the Minister wants it he can have it that way. He cannot have one-way traffic here.

The Minister has not got over the shock of being insulted in Donegal on Monday night.

No one insulted me.

It would be very difficult.

They were swept away.

The girl guide pickets annoyed the Minister.

Question No. 46.
