Vol. 243 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Haulage Licence Holders.

40.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power how many road haulage merchandise licence holders are at present subject to restrictions or limitations in regard to (a) area, (b) weight and (c) commodity who will be relieved of such restrictions when the Road Transport Acts are amended, as outlined by the Minister in his reply to Questions on 23rd October last.

The amending legislation which I hope to introduce at an early date will provide for the abolition of standard lorry weight as a method of quantitative restriction for all existing licences, numbering 967, and in future licences will be restricted by reference to the number of vehicles operated under them on a retrospective date, probably 1st January, 1969. Area restrictions will be removed for 731 licences now subject to them and commodity restriction for 35 licences.
