Vol. 243 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Insurance Losses.

50.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the loss ratio sustained on motor business by insurance companies in the Republic in 1968; and the actual amount of the loss sustained by such companies.

The underwriting loss on motor insurance in 1968 was £2.1 million, which represents 21 per cent of premium income. The report on assurance companies which is published annually by my Department contains detailed information on the business of the companies. The report for 1968 based on returns made this year will be available shortly.
