Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - Allocation of County Galway House.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the grave dissatisfaction in the town of Tuam, County Galway regarding the recent allocation of a house at St. Joseph's Park, Tuam; and if there is any action he can take in this matter.

I am not so aware.

Tenancies of local authority dwellings—such as the houses at St. Joseph's Park, Tuam—to which an approved scheme of letting priorities under section 60 of the Housing Act, 1966, applies, must be allocated in accordance with the scheme. Failure to do so would involve loss of the subsidy payable by my Department towards the annual loan charges on any dwelling concerned.

The Minister has stated that he is not aware of grave dissatisfaction.

I have an idea that the Deputy is dissatisfied. I would not call that grave dissatisfaction. The mere fact that the Deputy is dissatisfied does not make it grave dissatisfaction.

Could the Minister tell me how many applicants there were for the house in question?

No. The Deputy did not ask me that. I know this—the Deputy backed five losers.

Therefore, the Minister must have some communication——

We cannot have a debate on the question. The Deputy is entitled to put a supplementary question if he so wishes.

I certainly will. Is the Minister satisfied that the man who got the house was the most worthy applicant?

I assume he was.

Could the Minister tell me when the last priority list was drawn up?

No, I do not know. The Deputy did not ask me that.

That is a separate question.

I do not know what the Minister is doing over there.
