Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - Smelting Plant Location.

48.

Mr. Dunne

andMr. G. Lynch asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, since the raw materials for the proposed smelting plant are more convenient to the Limerick region, he will consider advising the people concerned to centre their plant there rather than in the proposed Cork location.

A smelter company registered here is examining the findings of a feasibility study on the question of establishing a lead-zinc smelter in this country, but I understand that they have not as yet made a decision in the matter. I am aware that the Limerick region was among a number of possible locations which were investigated by the company; but the final choice of a location, if it is decided to establish a smelter is, of course, a matter for the promoters.
