asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the unsatisfactory working conditions in the Dún Laoghaire fire brigade; and what action he proposes to take to improve conditions there.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Fire Brigade.
86.
As I indicated in reply to previous questions by the Deputy, the organisation of the fire services is a matter for the individual local authorities who are obliged under the Fire Brigades Act, 1940, to make reasonable provision for the prompt and efficient extinguishing of fires in their districts. It is, however, the policy of my Department to encourage these authorities to secure maximum efficiency in the organisation and equipment of their fire services. In furtherance of this policy, my Department's fire adviser recently inspected the Dún Laoghaire fire service and recommendations for its improvement have, in consequence, been made to the corporation.
