Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Care of Aged.

17.

Dr. Browne, Mr. M. O'Leary

andDr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the lack of knowledge of the precise facts concerning the living conditions of socially dependent persons age 65 and over in the city of Dublin and the inadequacy of the domiciliary services so far provided, he intends to have a comprehensive survey carried out as to (a) the needs and (b) the details of all services voluntary and public provided for such persons.

As I indicated to the Deputies in reply to questions on the 5th of this month, an inter-departmental committee was set up by the Minister for Health to examine the general question of the care of the aged and it has submitted a report to that Minister which will be published in the very near future. I do not intend to call for a survey in the circumstances.

Can the Minister say what he means by the near future?

I think the report is printed. It should be available within a week or two.
