Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Trading Stamps.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he intends to introduce legislation to prohibit the giving of trading stamps.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the value of trading stamps issued in the last year for which figures are available.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 42 and 43 together. I have had the general question of the effects of stamp trading under examination in my Department and this examination is now completed. I am now arranging consultations with various interested parties. When these consultations have been completed I will be in a position to decide whether legislation in any form is necessary or desirable. There are no figures available to me which would enable me to answer the question in relation to the value of trading stamps issued.
