Vol. 244 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maize Allocation.

28.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he has received complaints that there is insufficient allocation of maize to co-operative societies and to millers, particularly in the western areas of this country; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to rectify the matter.

Allocations of maize to co-operative societies and millers in western areas are restricted on the same basis as they are for the rest of the country. Having regard to the availability of home-grown barley, which is the best basic material for the production of quality bacon, there is no reason why the use of maize should be encouraged.
