Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stillorgan Road (Dublin) Traffic.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans have been prepared by Dublin Corporation for the control of traffic on the Stillorgan road so that the utmost degree of safety will be achieved.

The corporation and the county council have proposals for the improvement of the road from Donnybrook Church to Loughlinstown to dual carriageway standard with appropriate safety features. I have approved of these in principle subject to the acquisition by the local authorities of the land required and to agreement on detailed plans. In the interim it is a matter for the local authorities, acting in consultation with the Garda and where appropriate with their consent or at their request, to provide such traffic control features, including signs, markings and other devices, as they consider are required to ensure traffic and pedestrian safety. I understand from the corporation that they have complied with all statutory requests received from the Garda for the provision of such devices. The enforcement of traffic control is a matter for the Garda.
