Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Planning Application.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government why planning permission was refused to a person (name supplied) in County Galway; if an appeal has been lodged with his Department; and, if so, with what result.

Outline planning permission was refused on 19th September, 1969, by the planning authority for the reason that the development proposed would result in a concentration of ribbon development adjacent to a heavily trafficked arterial route and would conflict with the policy of the planning authority, set out in the county development plan, to restrict ribbon development and to encourage the location of housing development in existing centres. An appeal against this decision was lodged on the 9th October, 1969, and was decided by me on 28th January, 1970. My decision was to refuse outline permission for the proposed development for the reason that it would constitute ribbon development along a heavily trafficked main road with consequent interference with the safety and free flow of traffic.
