Vol. 244 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Garda Station.

39.

asked the Minister for Justice what is the present position in relation to the proposed closing of Clogherhead Garda station, County Louth.

As I indicated in my reply to a question on 10th December, 1969, the closing of Clogherhead station is dependent on the outcome of an examination being carried out by the Garda authorities of the police needs of the sub-district. This examination has not yet been completed.

Is the Minister aware that Clogherhead is expanding in many ways and that the closing of the barracks there should not be considered even for a moment?

The position of every barracks throughout the country is being considered at the moment, in view of the necessity for a reorganisation of the force. As I have informed the Deputy, no decision has been taken about this particular station so far.

It is just as necessary as Store Street.
