Vol. 244 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Juror Compensation.

41.

asked the Minister for Justice if any steps are being taken to have jurors adequately compensated.

Proposals for legislation on various aspects of the jury system, including the remuneration of jurors, are under consideration in my Department in the light of the recommendations made by the Committee on Court Practice and Procedure in their Second, Third and Fourth Interim Reports.

However, the terms of the juries legislation cannot be finally settled until decisions are reached on the increased jurisdictions that should be conferred on the district and circuit courts. My proposals for a comprehensive Courts Bill to cover, inter alia, this problem are at present under examination by the Government.
