asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (i) the total amount of grants and other assistance provided by the Industrial Development Authority or any other State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department to South African Companies and to subsidiaries of companies whose principal place of business is in the Republic of South Africa and (ii) the names of such companies.

The total amount of grants and other assistance provided by State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department to companies, which it is understood have South African connections, is £183,166. The companies concerned were Montana Steel Ltd. and the Shannon Diamond and Carbide Group, only the second of which is now operating here.

21.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Industrial Development Authority or any other State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department has provided any assistance, financial or otherwise, to any Irish representative or businessman to tour the Republic of South Africa to encourage South African companies to invest in Ireland.

The answer is "No".
