Vol. 245 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - National Museum.

24.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the future reorganisation and development of the National Museum.

I am satisfied that within the limits imposed by the present accommodation the museum staff are doing very good work through the display of the most notable of the museum collections, the preparation of guidebooks and the provision of slides and film strips. To alleviate the accommodation problem it is proposed to develop the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham and its 22 acres of grounds for the purpose of establishing a folk museum and enabling a portion of the collections to be transferred from Kildare Street. This transfer will ensure that additional exhibition space will be available in Kildare Street and that the portion of the collections transferred can be adequately exhibited in Kilmainham.
