Vol. 245 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Limerick Rivers.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the present position regarding the drainage of the Mulcaire river; and when work is likely to commence.

The Mulcaire catchment has been surveyed and work is proceeding on the design of a drainage scheme. I cannot say yet when actual works can be commenced on the ground.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary give any indication of when the work might commence? The scheme will have to go on exhibition first. When is it likely to be put on exhibition?

The indication given by my predecessor was that it would commence in 1971. That is the very earliest we could hope to commence this scheme. Indeed at this stage I would say 1971 would be a rather optimistic forecast.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance when work is likely to commence on the drainage of the Groody river in County Limerick.

A scheme for the Groody catchment has been exhibited and the observations received are being considered. It is yet too early to say when works may commence.
