Vol. 245 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Schools.

40.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the insanitary conditions prevailing at Fountainstown national school, County Cork; and what plans he has to remedy the matter.

Fountainstown national school is a one-teacher school which it is proposed to amalgamate with Knocknamana national school, in the same parish, when the premises of the latter school are extended. Arrangements in this regard are proceeding.

In the circumstances, any costly scheme of improvements to the Fountainstown school would not be warranted, but I am having investigations made as to the minimum works which might be required to improve conditions there during the period in which the building will remain in use.

41.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the extension and improvements to Rockchapel national school, County Cork.

I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that waterflushed sanitation has recently been provided at Rockchapel national school. As regards the carrying out of the remainder of the exten-for the school, this will go ahead on the sion and improvement scheme proposed production of satisfactory documentary evidence of title to the site extension.
