asked the Minister for Justice the number of cases in which gardaí were fired upon in the past two years; the number of arrests; and the terms of imprisonment imposed.

Apart from the recent murder case, gardaí were fired on on one occasion in the past two years. Proceedings in that case are pending.

For reasons which I am not in a position to disclose but which are related to the fact that certain matters are sub judice, I am not free to give any additional information.

Is it not true that the Minister is deliberately withholding information? Is the Minister not quite well aware that two of these particular people fired on members of the Garda Síochána and were brought to court and, because of the incompetence of the——

We cannot have this because the case is sub judice.

——Department of Justice these men are today roaming the streets? They are wanted for the murder of this particular garda.

The Deputy is deliberately trying to prejudice a case that is sub judice. He is trying to provide a way out for those who will be before the court.

The matter is sub judice.

This particular case is not sub judice and the Minister is deliberately withholding information.

The Deputy may not make a speech.

The Deputy is deliberately trying to prejudice the trial.

Is the Minister prepared to set up an inquiry?
