SECTION 22.

Question proposed: "That section 22 stand part of the Bill."

Will the Minister explain this section?

Section 22 provides for regulatory powers which will be used to standardise the provisions governing the payment of benefit or assistance to people who are absent from the State or imprisoned. Existing provision governing payments to people while absent from the State or in prison vary from scheme to scheme. The regulatory powers provided for in section 22 are primarily designed to standardise the provisions relating to social assistance payments.
