Vol. 245 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legal Aid Scheme.

18.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the dispute between himself and the Bar Council regarding fees paid under the legal aid scheme; and how the refusal of barristers to be assigned to legal aid cases, until the dispute is resolved, will affect the rights of those entitled to legal aid and who come before the courts on criminal charges.

I made a very detailed statement on this subject in the House on 3rd March in reply to a number of questions by Deputy E. Collins and I do not think that I should have to go over that ground again.

As regards the second part of the question, I received yesterday proposals from the Bar Council for increases in fees which I have under examination.
