Vol. 246 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speech Therapists.

3.

asked the Minister for Health what action his Department are taking to provide speech therapists for Counties Leitrim and Sligo as both county councils have been waiting for a long time for such personnel.

Speech therapists are in short supply not only in this, but in other countries. For this reason, the Dublin College of Speech Therapy was set up in October, 1969, to train speech therapists for employment in the health services throughout the country. It is expected that the first group of trainees at the college will qualify in mid 1972 and will then be available to take up duty. Meanwhile efforts to recruit speech therapists already qualified elsewhere are continuing.
