Vol. 246 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tractor Safety Frames.

7.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when it is proposed to fit safety frames to the 33 tractors without such frames in use in his Department's experimental stations.

The intention is to do this as soon as is possible having regard to the availability of frames which can be successfully fitted to the types of tractors in use.

This is not suggesting that it was not possible to get safety frames for tractors freely in this country?

I am not suggesting it is impossible. Very specifically I said it is intended to do this as soon as possible having regard to the availability of suitable frames.

Is the Minister aware that there is at least one firm, which is in Drogheda, manufacturing such frames and that it seems unwise that farm tractors used by the State have not been fitted with safety frames when advice has been given to private individuals to fit such frames?

I am inclined to agree with you.
