Vol. 246 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City School.

42.

asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be given for the provision of a new national school at St. Vincent's Convent, St. Mary's Road, Cork, in view of the immediate demand for such a school in the area.

Approval has been given to the proposal to replace the existing St. Vincent's Convent national school premises by a new building to accommodate about 1,100 pupils. Sketch plans for the new building, prepared by the manager's architect and submitted by the manager to my Department on 2nd March, 1970, are being examined as to their suitability. If the plans are considered satisfactory both as to design and to cost, my Department will enter into negotiations with the manager with a view to deciding the proportion of the cost of the building which will be met by State grant. When agreement has been reached in this regard the further arrangements for the provision of the new school will proceed.
