asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs (i) where Garda Síochána uniforms are manufactured and the name and address of the manufacturer, (ii) the source of supply of all the materials being used in these uniforms, (iii) the place of origin of such materials, and (iv) the amount in yards of materials and the total cost for the year ended 31st March, 1970.

The information requested is as follows:

(i) During the year ended 31st March last the uniforms in question were made by the following firms at the addresses mentioned.

John Ireland & Son Ltd., 13 Ellis Quay, Dublin 1.

McGonnell Bros., 19 Moore Lane, Dublin 1.

Taylor & Co. (Dundalk), New Street, Dundalk.

Belvoir Shirts Ltd., Lifford.

The caps were made by Jonathan Richards & Co. Ltd., 23 Merchant's Quay, Dublin 8.

(ii) and (iii) The cloth for the uniforms was supplied by Irish Worsted Mills Ltd., Portlaoise, Hill & Sons, Lucan and Dripsey Woollen Mills Ltd., Dripsey. The linings used in the make up of the uniforms and the material used in the making up of shirts were supplied by Greenmount & Boyne Linen Co. Ltd., Boyne Mill, Drogheda, General Textiles Ltd., Grace Road, Athlone and Hampton Mills Ltd., Balbriggan. The place of origin is therefore Ireland.

(iv) A total of 106,983 yards of cloth, linings and shirting valued at £63,000 approximately was used for the making up of Garda uniforms (including shirts) during the year ended 31st March, 1970.

Will they be blue-shirts too?
