Vol. 247 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cobh Ambulance Service.

25.

asked the Minister for Health the number of occasions in the last 12 months that an ambulance was called to Cobh Island; the average time taken before the ambulance reached Cobh; the number of times the delay exceeded one hour; and if he will take steps to ensure that a separate ambulance service is provided for the town.

I have been informed by the Cork Health Authority that an ambulance was called to Cobh on 80 occasions during the last 12 months.

The average response time for these calls was 29 minutes.

On one occasion the ambulance took more than one hour and on another occasion it took approximately an hour.

The Consultative Council on the Ambulance Services is at present reviewing the organisation of the ambulance services throughout the country. When this review is complete it will be possible to decide on the best location for ambulances and the need for having an ambulance stationed at Cobh will be considered.
