Vol. 247 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hijacking of Aircraft.

12.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether any special steps have been taken to prevent hijacking of Irish aircraft; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by Aer Lingus that they have taken special measures to prevent hijacking of their aircraft but for security reasons they must remain secret. I may add that a Bill which will give effect to the Tokyo convention on offences and other acts committed on board aircraft and which will outlaw hijacking and prescribe penalties therefor is in an advanced stage of preparation.
