Vol. 247 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monetary and Fiscal Policies.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in general how monetary and fiscal policies are co-ordinated and finally determined.

Throughout the year periodic reviews of the economy are carried out and policies of demand management decided on in the light of the existing and prospective economic situation. The extent to which in any particular circumstances reliance is placed on monetary and fiscal policies, respectively, depends on the likely impact of such policies. To achieve an appropriate mix of measures, the views of the Central Bank on monetary policy are obtained.
