Vol. 247 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Services.

1.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that Dublin Health Authority has refused hospital services under the Health Acts to a person (name supplied) of no means who had returned from South Africa; and if he will take steps to ensure that the hospital costs incurred in this case are met by the Dublin Health Authority.

There are two periods of hospitalisation involved in respect of the patient in question. I understand that in respect of the first period, when the patient was admitted direct from South Africa to a voluntary hospital, the health authority declined responsibility.

The legal advice available to me on this matter would not support such a decision and I am having the matter taken up with the health authority and I will let the Deputy know the result.
