Vol. 247 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tara Public Toilet.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will have a public toilet erected near the Hill of Tara, County Meath to cater for the large number of tourists who visit the Hill each year.

The Commissioners of Public Works are not empowered under the National Monuments Acts to provide public toilets at National Monuments in their care. The possibility of providing such facilities at Tara was considered by Bord Fáilte, in conjunction with Meath County Council and a local development committee some years ago but the scheme fell through because of technical and other difficulties. If at any time the proposal were reopened, the Commissioners of Public Works would be prepared to co-operate in every way within their powers.
