Vol. 247 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Burglaries.

16.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the number of burglaries that have taken place recently in the Mount Merrion Avenue area, Blackrock, County Dublin; and if he will arrange that adequate steps are taken to safeguard the interests of the residents in the area.

I assume that the Deputy intends the question to include housebreakings, etc. As he is aware, no doubt, burglary only refers to breaking into occupied houses at night, that is between 9 p.m. and 6.00 a.m.

While there were, in fact, no burglaries recently in the Mount Merrion Avenue area, Blackrock, a number of housebreakings have occurred there. In the period from 1st April to 22nd June, 1970, 12 housebreakings (dwellinghouses) and one case of entry with intent to steal have come to the attention of the Garda Síochána. To date detections have been made in five of these cases and Garda investigations into the remainder are continuing.

The Garda authorities have taken steps to improve the policing of the Mount Merrion Avenue area.
