Vol. 248 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teachers' Salaries.

34.

asked the Minister for Education the periods during which members of the three teaching professions, secondary, vocational and primary, withdrew from teaching service since January, 1969; which of the professions, if any, were penalised by the non-payment of salaries and allowances in respect of such periods of withdrawal; and, if any differentiation was made between the three professions in regard to the non-payment of salaries for such periods, the reasons for the differentiation.

Withdrawal from teaching service by members of the three associations of teachers occurred since January, 1969, as follows:

ASTI 1st to 23rd February, 1969.

VTA 26th to 27th May, 1969.

11th to 24th February, 1970.

7th January, 1970, to 24th February, 1970, teacher training courses.

INTO 28th May, 1969, to 6th June, 1969.

Payment of salary for the period involved is not made to any teacher who has withdrawn from teaching service. No differentiation is made in this matter between members of the teaching profession irrespective of the school from which service has been withdrawn.
