Vol. 248 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Prosecution.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason why a defendant (name supplied) who worked on divers dates from 27th June, 1968, to 31st July, 1968, whilst in receipt of unemployment benefit was not prosecuted until 28th May, 1970, at Carrigaline Court, County Cork.

This case was, in fact, referred by my Department for prosecution action as far back as October, 1968. The delay in bringing the case to court, which is unusual, is not a matter for which I am responsible.
