Vol. 248 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Child Transport Request.

16.

asked the Minister for Education why a request submitted by me on 3rd March, 1970 enclosing two medical certificates and requesting transport for a child (details supplied) with a deformed foot and acknowledged on 10th March and again acknowledged on 5th May (following my second letter of 4th April, 1970), has now culminated in a further letter dated 30th June, 1970 enclosing a medical certificate for completion.

The medical certificates furnished in this case in the first instance were not in a form which the Department could accept for the purpose of making exceptional arrangements under which transport might be provided for the pupil in question. It is necessary to have a certificate which states definitely that the pupil's disability is such that due to it she would be unable to attend school unless conveyed by transport service. If such a form of certificate is supplied in respect of this girl free transport to Cappawhite national school will be provided for her.

The delay in dealing with the case which was due to a reorganisation of the transport section of the Department is regretted.
