Vol. 251 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hygiene Regulations.

7.

asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied that strict hygiene regulations apply in the serving of drink in glasses in public houses; and, if not, if he will take steps to enforce the regulations.

Under the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950 special provisions have been made to require that all reasonable measures are taken to prevent contamination of food or drink by foreign matter. The enforcement of these provisions is the primary responsibility of the local health authorities. I am satisfied that health authorities are alive to their responsibilities in this matter as they affect hygiene requirements for licensed premises and that the necessity does not arise at the moment for the institution of special steps to ensure that the regulations are enforced in the respect mentioned by the Deputy. I am, however, keeping the matter under review.
