Vol. 248 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballincolling (Cork) Telephone Applications.

78.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that several hundred houses are being erected in Ballincollig, County Cork; and what plans his Department has to cater for the increased number of telephone applications.

I am aware of the housing development at Ballincollig. Equipment for a new automatic exchange at Ballincollig was ordered last year and it was expected that it would be ready for service by September, 1971. Because of difficulties in relation to the site for the new building, it is now likely that completion of the new exchange will be delayed beyond that date. Installation of equipment to cater for 60 additional subscribers' lines in the existing automatic exchange is currently in hands. Completion is expected in three months time and it will then be possible to cater for all the 1969 waiting applicants as well as priority applications arising during the current year. The possibility of providing further temporary extension to the existing exchange pending completion of the new exchange is being examined.
