Vol. 248 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School of Retail Distribution.

27.

asked the Minister for Education the amount of public funds approved for expenditure on a converted barn in a redevelopment area for the provision of a third level educational institute, namely the School of Retail Distribution; if suitable alternative accommodation was offered on generous terms; if so, why it was not considered appropriate; whether the opinion of a qualified architect was sought before the expenditure of public funds on such a scale was recommended for sanction by his Department; and, if so, the name of the architect concerned.

28.

andMr. Fox asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that students of the Dublin school of retail distribution are vehemently opposed to being accommodated in the alternative buildings being provided to replace the present premises; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 27 and 28 together.

There is no question of expending public funds on a converted barn for the purpose of providing accommodation for the School of Retail Distribution. What is involved is the purchase of a suitable site for the erection of such accommodation. The terms on which the accommodation to which the Deputy refers was offered were entirely prohibitive. The planning sub-committee of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee considered the matter at their meeting yesterday and I am awaiting their recommendations.
