Vol. 248 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Animal Diseases Cost.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he has seen a report of a statement from the Chairman of the Co-Operative Animal Health Limited, that animal diseases cost £50 million annually; if this is an accurate assessment; and if he has any comment on the matter.

It is difficult to quantify such losses in money terms but they are certainly significant. They would, of course, be very much higher were it not for the disease control and eradication measures operated by my Department.
