Vol. 248 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Garda Station.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance if a tender for the erection of the proposed Garda station in Waterford city has yet been accepted; when the work is likely to commence; when the station is likely to be in use; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the residential facilities which will become available to gardaí in the proposed new Garda station in Waterford City; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 21 and 22 together.

Tenders for the erection of this station will be receivable up to noon on 4th September and provided no unforeseen difficulties arise construction work should start in October. The project will take about two years to complete.

The new station will not contain residential accommodation.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary explain the delay in accepting tenders?

I explained all this to the Deputy in answer to a previous question. I do not see any point in going over the same ground again.

It is very inefficient. I feel the staff for whom the Parliamentary Secretary is responsible have not been very competent in this matter.
