Vol. 248 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Common Market Unemployment.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the percentage of insured persons who were unemployed in each of the Common Market countries at a recent date.

The coverage of data relating to unemployment from social insurance sources differs from country to country within the European Economic Community so that comparisons based on this material are hazardous. It is considered that the reliability of international comparisons is improved by defining for each country the percentage unemployment in relation to the total civilian labour force. The figures for 1969 are as follows:

Germany, 0.7 per cent; France, 1.8 per cent; Italy, 3.4 per cent; Netherlands, 1.4 per cent; Belgium, 2.7 per cent and Luxembourg, 0.0 per cent.
