20.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what action is being taken in Ireland on foot of the recommendation of the Sixth Conference of European Ministers of Justice that member States of the Council of Europe should take measures for the protection of consumers against sales promotion techniques, which are designed to ensure that such techniques do not operate to the prejudice of the legitimate interest of consumers.

21.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what action has been taken on foot of the recommendation of the Sixth Conference of European Ministers of Justice of the Council of Europe for a study by technicians and jurists to define the problems which exist in the field of tele-communications and other similar technical fields in relation to the protection of private life and to outline what are the solutions.

With your permission, a Cheann Chomhairle, I propose taking Questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

The texts of the recommendations in question have not yet been received in my Department. On receipt they will be studied in consultation with the relevant Government Departments in order to determine the attitude which should be adopted when they are considered at the next meeting in September of the Committee of Ministers Deputies of the Council of Europe.
