Vol. 248 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Re-housing.

96.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Local Government if Dublin Corporation has plans to re-house, in the same area, the people being displaced from the part of Dublin commonly known as the Liberties.

In this general area, Dublin Corporation have under construction at present, 48 flats at Clanbrassil Street Lower and 36 flats at Chamber Street. Sites have already been developed by them and tenders will be invited shortly, for 24 flats at Garden Lane for elderly persons.

The corporation propose to acquire sites for further flats at Clanbrassil Street Lower. I have not yet been informed by them of any further housing proposals for this area, but I understand that their draft development plan provides that housing developments in this area will be permitted on a scale sufficient to re-house families likely to be displaced by the re-development of the area.

The corporation have a substantial number of existing dwellings in this area in which families will continue to be re-housed from time to time as vacancies arise.
