Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Financing of Exports.

50.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is intended to introduce the scheme of favourable interest rates on credit for the export of capital goods as announced in this year's Budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

51.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce a scheme to help finance exports where exporters have a genuine problem of financing their export business due to their customers requiring medium term credit terms; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

The detailed conditions for the scheme of favourable interest rates announced in this year's Budget are under examination between the Irish Banks' Standing Committee, the Central Bank and the State Departments concerned. The question of medium term credit is being considered in the course of the examination which, I hope, will be completed in the near future. It will not, however, be practicable to put the scheme into operation while the bank closure continues.
