Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Sport.

63.

asked the Minister for Education what plans are now formulated for the disposal of the sum voted for the development of sport in the Budget.

Grants were awarded to 58 sport and youth bodies for the last financial year. These organisations have been asked to furnish to my Department, by 15th October, an interim report on the period to 30th September, 1970, and a further report on the period ending 31st December, 1970 together with certified accounts of expenditure.

The organisations have been requested to submit, at the same time, an estimate of requirements for the coming year. When these reports and the submissions from new applicants have been processed, the available grants will be allocated.

Will these reports be available to Deputies? Will there be any report made by Córas Tráchtála to the House on the developments here and what will be done next year?

Is the Deputy suggesting that the House should decide to whom the grants should be allocated?

Not at all. We are all anxious to see this developed and there should be a report submitted to the House by the Parliamentary Secretary on the developments—not in a spirit of criticism but of encouragement.

I do not know precisely what the Deputy means by a report. However, the House will be fully informed of developments at the appropriate time.
