Vol. 248 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soldiers' Retiring Ages.

81.

asked the Minister for Defence at what age a soldier must retire.

Retiring ages do not apply to soldiers of the permanent Defence Force. A soldier may enlist for a period not exceeding 12 years. If the term of his original enlistment is less than 12 years he may extend his service to 12 years. After that he may be re-engaged to complete 21 years service. After 21 years he may be continued in service up to 60 years of age.
