Vol. 248 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Traffic Wardens.

98.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many schools in the greater Dublin area have a school traffic warden in attendance; and if it is intended to increase the number of wardens.

At the end of the school year there were approximately 132 school wardens working in Dublin city and county area as follows—80 in Dublin city, 30 in Dublin county and 22 in Dún Laoghaire.

The school warden service is a matter in the first instance for the local authorities concerned. The warden service in these areas is constantly under review and I understand that further appointments may be made during the coming school year.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary taken note of the innovation in Carlow? Senior pupils are acting as traffic wardens?

I am not aware of that.

Are they being paid?

Would the question of employment not arise?
