asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the financial years 1965-66 1966-67, 1967-68, 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1970-71 (estimates provided for the separate figures for (1) secondary schools, (a) day, (b) residential, (2) secondary pupils (a) day, (b) residential in receipt of the supplementary capitation grants in lieu of tuition fees; the separate figures (in money terms) for supplementary capitation grants in respect of secondary pupils, (a) day, (b) residential, the separate figures for secondary pupils in receipt of supplementary capitation grants of (a) £25, (b) between £25 and £20, (c) £20, (d) between £20 and £15, (e) £15.

The scheme of free post-primary education and the payment of grants in lieu of tuition fees in respect of pupils in schools coming under that scheme became operative in the year 1967-68. The grants were based on the fees charged by each school in the year 1966-67 subject to a minimum of £15 and a maximum of £25. In 1968-69 the minimum was raised to £20 and since 1969-70 the rate is £25 in every case. The total payments in respect of the grants were as follows:—

No separate breakdown is made as between pupils in day schools and day pupils attending boarding schools.
